The first module of the "MATRAFLEX" project - Support to the Ministry of Finance - Independent Internal Audit Service for the EU funds Internal Audit" started today in the Ministry of Finance. The project has been financed by the Kingdom of the Netherlands in the amount of 100000 euros, and it was approved in October, 2008.
The project purpose is to reinforce the role of the Central Harmonisation Unit in the field of the EU funds audit and to train the auditors of the Independent Internal Audit Service of the Ministry of Finance, as well as internal auditors from institutions dealing with the EU means in performing the EU funds audit. A total of six project modules have been scheduled by Dutch experts Harry Jansen and Aldert van Duijvenbode.
"We would like to emphasize the importance of this project aiming to improve the internal auditors' work quality in the performance of the EU funds audit, which has been particularly stressed as necessary in the European Commission auditors' findings and recommendations"said Danijela Stepić, Director of the Directorate for Harmonization of Internal Audit and Financial Control, while opening the introductory module of the project.
35 internal auditors are attending the training organized within the framework of this project. Besides the Central Harmonisation Unit and the Independent Internal Audit Service, the project users are also internal auditors from institutions which are the EU pre-accession funds users, in the first place the IPA Operating Structure and the Agency for the Revision of the European Union Programme Implementation System (ARPA) as well as the Department for Combating Irregularities and Frauds (AFCOS).
