The closing ceremony for the Twinning Light project “Further Strengthening and Enhancement of the Croatian Public Internal Financial Control”

The closing ceremony, organised by the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Croatia and the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Croatia, for the Twinning Light project "Further Strengthening and Enhancement of the Croatian Public Internal Financial Control" financed under European Union IPA 2007 Programme for Croatia, was held in the Ministry of Finance on 9 September 2010 at 13:00.

The major objective of this project worth € 250,000 was to improve the existing internal financial control system in the public sector in the Republic of Croatia, which consists of financial management and control and internal audit.

Mr. Paolo Berizzi, Counsellor, Head of Operations Section in the EU Delegation to the Republic of Croatia addressed the participants.
Ms. Danijela Stepić, Director of Central Harmonisation Unit, Ministry of Finance and Mr. Joe Dobbin, Project leader, NI-CO and partners from United Kingdom presented the activities implemented by the project.

The project results are, as follows:
- updated FMC Manual with the emphasis on connecting internal financial control system and budget system,
- a template of Internal Audit Quality assurance and Improvement Programme produced,
- Questionnaires on annual reporting on Public Internal Financial Control system (PIFC system) updated,
- workshops organised for the Central Harmonisation Unit staff and persons involved in Financial Management and Control and internal auditors, as well as a study trip to the UK.

The above activities have significantly contributed to the improvement of the quality of internal financial control system, as well as to better management of budgetary and other budget users funds.
